Halton approves $1.5 million in community funding

Nearly $1.5 million funding has been approved for 28 community programs and projects through the Halton Region Community Investment Fund.

In approving the payments, the Region Halton continues to meet its priority of ensuring programs such as assisting low-income residents, providing quality environment for children and youth development and delivering programs that meet the needs of seniors, Regional Chair Gary Carr said.

“Our commitment to keeping our communities safe and healthy is part of what makes Halton such a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire,” Regional Chair Gary Carr said in a release after Halton Council approved the expenditure on April 29. “The Fund makes it possible for critical non-profit programs to expand their services, enhance their equipment or even try something new so they can continue to improve and enhance the lives of Halton residents.”

The funding ranges from one to three years depending on the program and project.

The following programs in alphabetical order have received funding; Acclaim Health, ADAPT, ArtHouse, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Halton, Bob Rumball Associations for the Deaf, Catholic Family Services of Hamilton, Community Living Burlington, Community Living North Halton, Compassion Society of Halton, Elizabeth Fry Society of Peel-Halton, Food4Kids Hamilton-Halton, Food for Life, Girls Inc. of Halton, Halton Aphasia Centre, Halton Food for Thought, Home Suite Hope, John Howard Society of Peel Halton Dufferin, Links2Care, Nelson Youth Centres, Radius Child and Youth Services, Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), SAVIS of Halton, Shifra Homes, STRIDE, St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, and Support and Housing Halton.
