The Town of Milton has received yet another revenue payment of close to a million dollars from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation.

A fourth-quarter (January to March 2015) non-tax gaming revenue payment of $973,502 was issued to the Town for hosting the OLG Slots at Mohawk Racetrack. This puts the total revenue payments for Milton at more than $90 million.

“Revenues from OLG gaming sites allow local host municipalities to invest in their infrastructure and support community organizations and initiatives,” said Halton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris.

OLG provides the provincial government with the largest source of non-tax revenue, valued at roughly $2-billion annually. Payments are determined based on an escalating scale of gaming revenue consistent across all sites in Ontario.

The money is used for hospitals and other government priorities. In the 2014-15 fiscal year, the Province allocated $115 million to support charities through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

“The people of Halton and Ontario benefit from gaming revenues through provincial investment in key public services like health care and education,” said Harris.

In addition, money is set aside for research, treatment and prevention of gambling addiction.
