The February calendar of events at the Milton Centre for the Arts features an exciting line-up of entertainment for all ages and areas of interest, including performances and shows in dance, music, family, comedy and film, featuring the talent of several local performers.
“I encourage residents and visitors of Milton alike to take advantage of the wide variety of high-quality performances and shows at our Milton Centre for the Arts,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “Why not try something new and develop a new appreciation of arts and culture in Milton?”
The entertainment line-up begins with a performance from the Dance Moves Milton series by Canadian dance company Dancetheatre David Earle. Sculpting Time features local dance artist Elizabeth Kmiec and is a modern dance piece that is part of a larger living retrospective, featuring selected works from award-winning choreographer David Earle.
Those looking to enjoy musical entertainment have the option to attend concerts in almost every genre. A costumed portrayal of music’s biggest icons Abba and the BeeGees will take to the stage with Abbamania and Night Fever and features Milton’s own Michelle Truman. Beatles fans can enjoy a note-for-note, cut-for-cut rendition of the fab four’s last studio album Abbey Road, presented by the talented studio musicians of Classic Albums Live. Local singer-songwriter Darrelle London, a Bishop Reding High School alumni who got her start in Milton and has gone on to receive national and international acclaim, will be performing with fellow celebrated singer-songwriter Ambre McLean. Also featured this month and back by popular demand, Waterstreet Blues Band will return to perform cover and original pieces spanning a wide variety of musical genres, including blues, swing, classic rock, pop and tango.
Family Day weekend provides the opportunity for some family-friendly fun with a performance of The Snail and the Whale, a Tall Stories adaptation of the beloved children’s book by Julia Donaldson. Created for audiences ages 4 years and up, this performance will feature storytelling, live music and laughs for the whole family. For those looking to enjoy a sneak peek of the story prior to the show, a book reading will be held at Indigo Milton on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m.
Adults looking for a night out filled with laughter have the opportunity to experience the comedic talent of British-born, award-winning comedian Chris Gibbs, described by the National Post as being “one of the funniest guys around.” This hilarious one-man show explores the fears worries and surprises of being a new father, and will have audiences laughing in their seats.
In addition, movie buffs can take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a feature and documentary screening through the Milton Film Forum, and facility patrons can explore two art exhibitions, which will be on display in the Holcim Gallery over the course of the month.
The Milton Centre for the Arts provides several ticket discount opportunities to explore the February show listings; the Pick 3/Pick 4 Program enables patrons to receive a discount when purchasing multiple show tickets. High school students can take advantage of the eyeGo to the Arts program, which provides a limited number of tickets for all performances at $5. Access 2 Entertainment cards will also be accepted for support persons accompanying a person with a disability.
