Milton Visitor Guide

The closest airport to Milton is the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Visitors who are flying into Atlanta can easily rent a car, drive approximately 20 miles north on Route 400, and exit at Haynes Bridge Road towards Alpharetta. One of the most interesting ways to tour Milton would be leisurely by horseback because horseback riding is a common recreational activity for many residents of Milton who own horses, and a visitor could meet some of the more quintessential local denizens while exploring horse trails throughout the area. However, without a horse, the next best way would be to tour the area by car. Driving around the winding country roads through the various little residential developments in Milton evokes a peaceful and pastoral feeling. Each residential node is set back from the street and separated from the other developments by wide open spaces. Within each residential node properties typically range from one acre to five acres, homes are generally large and feature custom architectural designs, and there is a generous amount of beautiful landscaping between the homes.

There are lots of places to stop for lunch and have fun shopping

A fun place to stop for lunch and do some shopping is Crabapple Crossroads, which contains an historic part of Crabapple that was incorporated into the City of Milton in 2006. Centered at the crossroads of Georgia Highways 140 and 372, Crabapple Crossroads features quaint shopping boutiques, art galleries, and many interesting restaurants. For more shopping fun, visitors can also drive back into Alpharetta and find the Historic Shops of Crabapple, which is another quaint and historic shopping district replete with intriguing restaurants, shopping boutiques and specialty stores.

Driving back south along Route 9 towards Atlanta, visitors will find the City of Roswell and its Historic District just a few miles from Alpharetta. Roswell’s Historic District is a lovely area to stroll through with its many old storefronts and little pathways off the main streets that contain many antique shops, art galleries and specialty stores where unique bargains can be found.

The Roswell Historical Society conducts guided walking tours of the Historic District on Wednesday mornings at 10 A.M. and Saturday afternoons at 1:00 P.M. Tours leave from the Roswell Visitors Center. Two other nearby attractions where tours are available are Bulloch Hall and Smith Plantation. Exploring the region that includes Milton, Alpharetta and Roswell is a great way to spend a few days and the experience can be fun for the entire family.
