Documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras had been working on a film about government surveillance for two years when she was contacted in January 2013 by Edward Snowden, who used the alias "CITIZENFOUR." When Snowden revealed that he was a high-level analyst with the National Security Agency who wished to meet with Poitras in order to expose the Agency's domestic spying program, Poitras persuaded him to let her film the encounter. Placing us inside the Hong Kong hotel room where Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald met with Snowden to receive classified documents that gave shocking proof of the US government's massive campaign of illegal surveillance and invasions of privacy carried out against ordinary Americans, CITIZENFOUR is a real-life thriller that not only shows you the dangers of governmental surveillance, but makes you feel them.

The Milton Film Forum is a volunteer initiative coordinated through the Toronto International Film Festival's (TIFF) Film Circuit. Movies will be screened on the first Wednesday of every month. Each screening will be followed by refreshments and an open discussion with your fellow movie lovers and the occasional special guest from the film's cast or crew.
