Three dozen of the world's leading conservative and libertarian thought leaders – economists, entrepreneurs, legal scholars, journalists, and political philosophers – will gather at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, on Oct. 27-30 for Freedom Week.

The free event, open to the public, delivers a spectacular meeting of the minds, bringing together notable and vocal leaders in the global, free-enterprise society as they share insights into current issues, provide historical information and reflect the university's own "Northwood Idea" of cultivating future leaders of a free-market, free-enterprise business world.

Speakers at this four-day event include the following individuals, to name just few on the event's full agenda:

Eamonn Butler, director and co-founder of Britain's free-market policy think tank, the Adam Smith Institute
Simon Cowan, director of the Centre for Independent Studies TARGET30 program
Steve Davies, director of the Institute of Economic Affairs in London
David Friedman, economist and author of The Machinery of Freedom
Josh Good, program manager of the American Enterprise Institute's Values and Capitalism Project
Jacob Hornberger, founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation
Barbara Kolm, president of the Friedrich A. v. Hayek Institute in Vienna, Austria
Fred McMahon, Michael Walker Chair of Economic Freedom Research at the Fraser Institute, Canada
Tom Palmer, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, director of Cato University, and executive vice president for international programs at the Atlas Network
Larry Reed, President of the Foundation for Economics Education
Rev. Robert A. Sirico, co-founder and president of the Acton Institute
David J. Theroux, president and CEO of The Independent Institute, founder and president of the C.S. Lewis Society of California, and founding vice president and director of academic affairs for the CATO Institute
Mark Thornton, senior fellow at the Ludwig Von Mises Institute and editor of the Austrian Economics Newsletter
Event organizer Alex Tokarev, a Northwood University assistant professor of economics, the university President and CEO Keith Pretty, and several other professors, also will be joining these and other international conservative and libertarian thinkers in panel discussions throughout the course of this exceptional and stimulating week.

"With election season just around the corner, this event provides an excellent forum for discussions on so many pertinent topics, from minimum wage to immigration reform to gender discrimination to unconstitutional acts of the current U.S. presidential administration," says Tokarev, who grew up Marxist in Bulgaria and converted to the teachings of Milton Friedman. "And the list of speakers is amazing. We are offering an immensely diverse panel from more of the leading, global free-marketing institutions than any other event I have attended in the past 15 years. This free, public event is one that is worthwhile, relevant and thought-provoking."

The week's events will be followed by a special tribute to Milton Friedman on Oct. 31 – Milton Friedman Day, an event presented in an open classroom format for area high school students featuring two presentations: "Who protects the consumer?" on Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. and "Who protects the worker?" at 12:30 p.m.
