On February 24, 2014, Milton Council approved a staff report that recommended a public-private partnership with Ren’s Pets Depot for a period of three years to promote the mandatory registration of dogs online at http://dogtags.milton.ca/.

Ren’s Pets Depot will provide an incentive to complete the mandatory dog licensing application online by offering a $25 voucher that can be used on any purchase and a $10 in-store voucher when purchasing $50 or more, redeemable at any of their retail locations. The total value of the voucher would be $35 when an owner registers their dog online at http://dogtags.milton.ca/.

“We are pleased to partner with Ren’s to help encourage Milton residents to obtain their dog licenses,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “This is a good opportunity for everyone who owns a dog in Milton to make sure they renew or register for a new license – in the long run it can save a heartache for pet owners!”

”Ren’s Pets Depot is 100% Canadian and family owned with its roots strongly entrenched in Halton, so we are delighted to be given the opportunity to give back to the dog owners of Milton, many of whom are loyal Ren’s customers” said Joe Lynn, Vice President and CFO and a longtime Milton resident. “The vouchers almost cover the cost of the dog license and knowing that their dog is licensed should provide peace of mind for the dog owner”

It has been established that one third of all dogs will be lost once in their lifetime. Under these circumstances, an Animal Control Officer will secure the dog and conduct an investigation to determine the owner. In simple terms, the dog tag allows the Animal Control Officers to find the animal’s owner.

If a Milton dog owner registers a spayed/neutered dog online, the cost is $36 and he/she would receive $35 in vouchers redeemable at Ren’s Pet Depot. The goal of the public-private partnership is to create an incentive to register dogs online. After consideration of the $35 in redeemable vouchers, the registration of a dog with the Town would cost the average dog owner one dollar. The gift card and voucher are redeemable at any of the six Ren’s Pets Depot locations. Visit http://www.renspets.com/ for information on Ren’s Pets Depot.
