Milton Education

Students who live in Milton attend public schools in the Fulton County School District. Approximately 2,225 students in grades 9 through12 attend Milton High School, which moved to 13025 Birmingham Highway in Milton from its former location in Alpharetta in 2005. Milton High School has received some notable awards for academic achievement. It is the only high school in Georgia that received the prestigious No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon Schools distinction for 2008 from the U.S. Department of Education. Newsweek Magazine listed it among America’s Best 100 High Schools, and U.S. News & World Report recognized it as being an outstanding American school. During 9th grade, students at Milton High School study a wide variety of subjects. At the beginning of 10th grade, they can choose between more specialized programs known as academies; i.e. the Math and Science Academy, the Social Sciences Academy, or the Arts and Humanities Academy. Sports programs include baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, swimming, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, track and field, cross country, dance team and cheerleading. Academic competitions include the mathematics team and the debating team.

There are several middle schools and elementary schools in Milton

Adjacent to Milton High School is Northwestern Middle School, which was established in 1996 and is attended by approximately 1,235 students. Northwestern Middle School has four academic wings, two exploratory wings, five computer laboratories, and a gymnasium with a stage.

Two other middle schools located in Milton are Hopewell Middle School and Crabapple Middle School. Elementary grade schools include Cogburn Woods Elementary School, Crabapple Crossing Elementary School and Summit Hill Elementary School. In September of 2008, the Fulton County Board of Education announced the purchase of 64 acres of land near Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road in Milton. A new high school is scheduled to be opened on the land in 2012.

Two colleges are located within 20 miles of Milton

The closest 4 year college is about 10 miles away from Milton in Decatur. DeVry University is a private college with about 5,300 students that offers Bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Business Administration, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electronics Engineering Technology, and Network and Communications Management. Associate degree programs include Electronics and Computer Technology, Health Information Technology, Network Systems Administration, and Web Graphic Design. DeVry University is located at 250 N. The closest 2 year college is about 20 miles from Milton in Duluth. ITT Technical Institute is a private technical training school that offers business degrees in Management, & Marketing, Accounting and Business Management, Business Administration and Management, and E-Commerce. The Institute also offers computer science degrees in Programming, Networking/LAN/WAN Management, Computer Networking/Telecommunications, Web/Multimedia Design, and Web/Multimedia Management.
